Thousands of vehicles sold in Canada are under new Transport Canada safety recalls after automakers reported defects involving airbags, fire risks, rear-view cameras, braking systems, wheel hardware and other safety concerns between May 23 and 29.
The latest recalls affect several major brands, including Hyundai, Honda, Acura, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Lucid, Ford and Land Rover. Transport Canada says owners will receive notices from manufacturers with instructions on inspections, software updates or part replacements.
Hyundai Recalls Tucson, Santa Cruz and Elantra Models
Hyundai issued three separate recalls. One affects more than 80,000 vehicles, including the 2025 Santa Cruz and 2025 and 2026 Tucson, over a problem linked to the vehicle safety system, which could cause sudden braking.
A second Hyundai recall covers more than 6,000 2024 to 2026 Elantra hybrid vehicles. Transport Canada says a problem in the hybrid power control unit, or HPCU, could cause overheating. The defect could prevent the vehicle from starting or force it into reduced power mode.
“An HPCU that overheats can create a fire risk,” the recall, last updated May 28, said.
Hyundai will advise owners to visit a dealership for an HPCU software update.
A third Hyundai recall affects slightly more than 500 vehicles, including the 2015 and 2016 Elantra and 2016 Elantra GT. The driver-front airbag inflator could rupture during deployment, causing the airbag to underinflate and sending fragments toward occupants.
“An airbag inflator that ruptures can create a risk of injury or death,” the recall, last updated May 26, said.
GM, Honda and Lucid Issue SUV, Pickup and EV Recalls
Honda recalled nearly 1,000 electric SUVs, including the 2024 Acura ZDX and 2024 and 2025 Honda Prologue, because water could enter the rear-view camera and affect the display.
“A rear-view camera image that doesn’t display correctly could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash,” the recall, last updated May 25, said.
General Motors recalled 57 full-size SUVs, including 2025 and 2026 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL models, plus the 2025 Chevrolet Suburban. The recall affects select vehicles with 24-inch wheels and dealer-installed brake packages or serviced front hubs. Incorrect bolts could loosen, affecting handling or causing a wheel to detach.
GM also recalled five 2026 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks with 4WD or AWD and transfer case part number 87842227. A manufacturing defect could cause front or rear wheels to lock.
“To reduce the safety risk, General Motors advises you not to drive your truck until the recall repairs have been completed.”
Lucid recalled 34 2024 and 2025 Air Pure rear-wheel-drive electric cars due to a possible inverter failure that could cut power to the wheels. Lucid will send an over-the-air software update to monitor the issue.
Ford Bronco and Land Rover Range Rover Also Recalled
Ford recalled more than 1,000 2021 and 2022 Bronco SUVs with molded-in-colour hard tops. Roof panels could separate while driving.
“A panel that detaches from the vehicle could create a hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash,” the recall, last updated May 28, said.
Land Rover recalled 10 2026 Range Rover and 2026 Range Rover Velar SUVs because a damaged audio amplifier could stop the seatbelt reminder chime from working.
“A seatbelt warning that doesn’t work correctly may not remind you to buckle your seatbelt. Not wearing your seatbelt can increase the risk of injury in a crash,” the recall, last updated May 25, said.
Owners affected by these Transport Canada vehicle recalls should watch for mailed notices and contact their dealership or manufacturer for repair instructions.
