A Surrey woman’s former partner has been charged with second-degree murder, nearly two years after she was reported missing and months after her remains were identified in Richmond.
Navdeep Kaur, 28, was reported missing by her family to Surrey RCMP on Feb. 23, 2024. At first, the case was treated as a missing person investigation. But the file soon escalated.
In March 2024, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took over after police found evidence suggesting Kaur may have been a victim of foul play. That marked a major turning point in the case and shifted the investigation toward homicide.
The investigation deepened again in July 2024, when Richmond RCMP began looking into the discovery of human remains along the shore of an industrial area northeast of the George Massey Tunnel. Months later, in November 2024, IHIT confirmed the remains were Kaur’s.
Investigators said it took several more months to piece together the timeline and gather enough evidence to move the case forward. That evidence was then submitted to the BC Prosecution Service, which has now approved a second-degree murder charge against Kaur’s former partner, 24-year-old Amarbir Singh.
Police said Singh and Kaur were in a relationship at the time of her disappearance.
IHIT said Singh is now wanted on a Canada-wide warrant. Investigators also believe he may have fled the country.
“We are aware that Mr. Singh may have fled the country, but that will not stop us from pursuing him,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT.
“We will continue to actively track him down, and we are fully prepared to work with our law enforcement counterparts overseas to bring him before the Court.”
Investigators are now asking for the public’s help as they work to locate Singh. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4488).
