Stolen Ghee, Butter and Alcohol Worth $30,000 Recovered by Police, Brampton’s Pintu Gohil Charged

Peel Regional Police have charged a Brampton man after investigators recovered thousands of dollars in stolen grocery and alcohol products during a retail theft investigation.

Officers from 12 Division arrested 48 year old Pintu Gohil of Brampton following a three month investigation into alleged theft and distribution of products taken from major retailers across the region.

Police said officers executed a search warrant at a Brampton residence on Monday, March 9. During the search, investigators recovered a large quantity of goods believed to be stolen from retail stores.

According to Peel Regional Police, officers seized about 300 bottles of alcohol, 100 bricks of butter and 91 tubs of ghee. The total retail value of the recovered items is estimated at approximately $30,000.

Gohil was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime. He was later released from custody on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on April 7.

Police say retail theft remains a serious concern across the region, affecting businesses and local communities.

“Retail theft is not a victimless crime. When businesses are targeted, the impact is felt across the community, from higher prices and lost jobs to reduced investment in our neighbourhoods. Peel Regional Police remains committed to working with businesses, residents, and our partners to keep our communities safe and support a strong local economy,” said Acting Deputy Chief Hubert Hiltz of Peel Regional Police.

According to police statistics, nearly 7,500 retail theft incidents were reported to Peel Regional Police in 2025. Authorities say the number of retail theft cases has decreased by six per cent between 2024 and 2025.
