A Lindsay man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting an intruder who broke into his apartment early Monday morning, police say.
The Kawartha Lakes Police Service reported that officers were called to a Kent Street apartment around 3:20 a.m. A 44-year-old resident told police he woke up to find a man inside his home. An altercation followed, leaving the intruder with serious, life-threatening injuries.
The injured man, 41, was first taken to Ross Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to a Toronto hospital. Police said he was already wanted on unrelated charges and will remain in custody once released from the hospital.
The resident has been charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. He was released on conditions and will appear in court at a later date. The intruder faces four charges, including break-and-enter, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief under $5,000, and failing to comply with probation.
