Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has issued suspension notices to truck drivers suspected of fraudulently obtaining their Class A commercial licences. The ministry identified 185 drivers involved in dishonest practices during the licensing process.
A spokesperson for the MTO emphasized the province’s commitment to road safety, stating, “We have zero tolerance for bad actors on our roads.” The ministry has not disclosed specific details on how these licences were obtained dishonestly.
In addition to the suspensions, the MTO has ordered affected drivers to retake their knowledge and road tests. They must complete a vision and knowledge test within 60 days and a road test within 120 days at a DriveTest center. Drivers are responsible for the costs associated with these retests and must provide their own Class A truck and trailer for the road test.
The MTO’s actions highlight the importance of maintaining integrity in the licensing process to ensure the safety of all road users.
