Political Activist Charlie Kirk Shot Dead in Utah, Trump Orders Flags Lowered

Charlie Kirk, 31, conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University’s campus on September 10 and died later that day. The attack occurred at about 12:10 p.m. MDT during the first stop of his “American Comeback Tour”.

Eyewitness recordings show Kirk falling to the ground after being shot in the neck. The shot came from approximately 200 yards away, from a nearby building. He was rushed to hospital but his injuries proved fatal.

President Donald Trump, who described Kirk as a “legendary” ally, ordered all American flags across the U.S. to be flown at half-staff until Sunday evening in his honour.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox described the incident as a “political assassination” and pledged a full investigation. A person of interest was initially taken into custody but later released after interrogation. Authorities say the shooter remains at large.

Political voices across the spectrum issued statements. Barack Obama called the violence “despicable” and said it has “no place in our democracy”. Other figures including Kamala Harris, JD Vance and Cory Booker also denounced the act and urged unity.

The FBI and the ATF continue probing.

Kirk leaves behind his wife, Erika, and two young children.
